Vintage is In

I read an article recently that compared landscape plants to clothing. The question, “why would you put on a 20 year old outfit when you could wear something new and current?” was posed in the article.  Honestly,  I prefer the combination of old and new.  When I see all the camellias, azaleas, magnolias and dogwoods in bloom, I appreciate their Southernness. Yet, I am also coming around to adding new “accessories” to the garden–tall, sleek containers,  and funky, contorted horticulture.  Maturity brings the realization that what goes around truly comes back around.

Fashion.

Furniture.

And yes,

FLOWERS!

 

There has been a revolution of gardening the past few years, perhaps for different reasons, but a “coming back” just the same. Dare to be a bit different, but hold on to your old suit.
