Roses are lovely plants for the home garden. The color, fragrance and eye-appeal is worth every penny on planting them. I inherited 12 or so hybrid tea roses 14 years ago when we moved into our current home. About 3 years into it, I slowly “shovel pruned” all of those suckers. Spending every Saturday spraying insecticide and fungicide got old. I’ve since replaced those roses with no-nonsense Knock-Out roses. They don’t require the maintenance of hybrid teas. I may put a 3 month fertilizer on them early spring and mid-summer, and give them water, but no spraying.
I do have 2 David Austin roses surviving near my patio. This is a popular rose for brides because of the density of the petals and the sweet, sweet scent. Â They have very flimsy stems so one must beware when depending on these roses for bouquets! Who cares, though? They are beautiful, even if for a short time!
The rose is the International Herb Association’s Herb of the Year for 2012.
Yes. The rose is an herb!
see you

I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall. – Eleonor Roosevelt
