Yesterday was a great day for Mimi. I made cream of wheat and added some egg white for protein. She has been eating a lot of carbs and very little protein. Her prescribed diet is regular with low dairy. So, none of her favorites right now–yogurt, ice cream, etc. The Physical Therapist from Home Health Care came yesterday around lunch time and he was fabulous! Experienced and patient, he performed a thorough exam including her medical history and a range of motion assessment. He walked around my house to help identify areas that may be unsafe or that we need to modify. The shower, for example, we have a large walk in shower, but the floor may be a bit slippery with wet feet. I will bring a clear mat from mama’s house to put in so she won’t slip. Also, he recommended this Rollator walker for now to get around the house and to the beauty shop. You need wide hallways to maneuver this nifty gadget. I called the doctor’s office and they sent a referral in for the Rollator.
Physical therapy will begin this week and continue for 4 weeks. She has a list of “beginner” exercises to help move her joints that are a bit stiff. De-conditioning can happen like that!
Mama was much more clear headed yesterday—like turning on the defroster for your car window. Â She is looking forward to seeing Marianna and Sam who have been at St. Simons for a few days with Robert. I am glad we have had the time together to adjust. I’ve done my best to keep her on schedule, and establish a routine.
Cards are starting to show up in the mail, and this is very much appreciated. I update her on facebook every day, but the cards are something she can read over and over at her leisure. Â We’ve had breakfast and coffee this morning and talked about the bee removal at St. Paul’s Church downtown. If you haven’t read that, check out today’s Augusta Chronicle. Â I am off for a 9am exercise class while mama naps.
Thank you for all your comments and cards. Feel free to share this experience with your Facebook friends. Mama has given permission.
I’ve had a few moments to read ‘The Apostolate of Holy Motherhood’ which is about a visions/appearances of Mary in the 1980’s. Here is one quote I flagged:
Blessed Mother: “Do not be concerned with what is happening to others. Their relationship with God may be in a different stage than your own and comparison could cause confusion. If you keep your eyes only on My Son you will be drawn closer to Him more rapidly than if you have your eyes on others. Although filial concern is a Christian necessity, it should entail being only conerned with that which will help your brothers and sisters to love God more and never anything else.”
Blessings from the Garden!
