It’s Not Too Late!
Facebook friend, Kim, asks ” Good morning ML! I finally have time to get my garden in for the summer. Is it too late? Can you suggest some plants/flowers that would still have time to produce?”
Kim. Indeed you do! We actually had a cool spring so I feel like we are a few weeks behind with HOT weather as per usual crazy Augusta weather. Here’s a note about what to do now. Still plenty to do for July and August, too. I’ll tap out a post later in the week for late summer ideas.
Just in case you are kicking yourself when all your friends have veggie gardens, but not you…It is not too late!! The heat has finally turned up here in Augusta, GA and we’ve had a bit of rain. The entire Back 40 is exploding!!
According to the UGA Planting Chart, it is time to plant the following:
From SeedÂ
Okra
Corn
Southern peas – blackeye, crowder, zipper
Summer squash–zucchini and crookneck
Winter squash– butternut and acorn
Cucumber
ZINNIAS, cosmos, mexican sunflower, sunflower
Irish potatoes–need eyes for this!
Transplants
Tomato plants still in stores. I am rooting some of the suckers from the heirloom tomatoes I have growing now.
Any annuals you see that look healthy in the garden store–petunias, angelonia, profusion zinnias!
So go dig in!
