Marianna and I watched the Loblolly pines sway in the darkness last week during ice storm PAX. Although frightening to watch, we sat on the windowsill, astonished by the limbs cracking, then snapping and falling to the ground so close to the house.
The storm inside was no heat, no lights, an elderly mother, dead cell phone batteries, and prolonged time indoors together!
Friday night was day 3 with no electriciy, I was on edge and ready to be warm. Worse, my mother was cold and we had no idea how long it would be before power was restored. I called every hotel in the area, and all were booked through the weekend!
We had no choice but to stay home and eat what was left in the fridge, pour a glass of wine and sit in the big den in our new swirly chairs. My nerves settled, Mimi had a buzz and the kids and their guests were settled in telling stories and reminiscing.
All enjoyed the moment.
The roots of our family/friend tree were strengthened by the storm.
Cheers to PAX!
