Wonderful time with the ladies of English Ivy Garden Club in Augusta this morning. The topic today was A Collection of Holiday Ideas with an emphasis on using goodies from the garden. Ginger, our hostess, has a beautiful home and a wreath that would make my husband smile. As I was setting up for show and tell on the cheery sun porch, I noticed all the lush foliage outside. I grabbed Dudley, a club member, and we took the clippers outside! Â Ginger’s yard has so many plants for decorating —magnolia (of course), cypress, citrus, Â holly, pittopsporum, camellia, sasanqua, eucalyptus, boxwood and so much more. Â In hindsight, I should have taken the group out for a tour and lesson on purposeful gardening.
Here is the wrap:
- Less is more—make your Thanksgiving and Christmas arrangements simple, it’s appealing to the eye.
- Clip from your yard (or someone else’s) and add to your store bought Christmas wreath.
- Incorporate houseplants into your rooms–adds warmth and coziness and good for the soul.
- Add your personality to your holiday decor, not the florist’s.
- It is time to force narcissus(paperwhite) and amaryllis bulbs indoors. They make powerful Christmas gifts.
- Keep your clippers in your car! You never know when an opportunity will arise!
See you.
