I should be in the gym, but I had to share some of the info we learned today. Our keynote speaker this morning was Dan Hinkley, horticulturist, author and speaker. He spoke about creating the gardens at Heronswood and Windcliff. Soft spoken and humorous, Hinkley presented a PowerPoint complete with  sounds of bubbling water, bellowing bullfrogs and photos of his travels. Had the presentation been in high def I am sure we would have been wowed even further.
My take away from Dan’s talk today was about texture. He showed us several photos with color removed which amplified the various textures. Most of the plants would never survive our Southern heat and humidity, but we can appreciate more the importance of texture in the landscape!
Another memorable speaker was Dan McCarthy, expert on “the business of blogging”. His talk could have been a yawner, but paper and pens were full speed. Dan told a success story about BikemanforU. The transition from failing hometown bike business to Internet success. This business streams video from the shop, “produces” how-to videos using in house security cameras, and has established a successful e-commerce site! Inspiration for sure!
Our hosts, Digital Sherpa, have been so wonderful. A panel of DS experts laid out information on analytics, social media presence, platform transparency–all giving take aways to put into practice tonight!
I am looking forward to tomorrow’s line up which includes Teresa O’Connor from Seasonal Wisdom, a photography session, more marketing info, and tips from another panel of magazine and HGTV experts.
Room service.
See you.
