What should I plant this year? It’s time to answer that question. January is cold and the garden is napping, so let’s put some ideas down. Â Two years ago, I prepared a rough sketch of my small home garden. I put down what already existed in the garden, then added my ideas for spring. This advance garden planning helped me with shopping for seeds and transplants at the garden stores. Having a plan for most anything will help you focus on what you need. It’s so easy to go astray in the garden centers. You see I am no artist, but just taking a bit of time to jot down a simple plan saved me tons of time!
Remember my decorator friend, Yancey? Here is her Decorating Manifesto:
1. Â Use what you have– make a plan of what you have growing now in your garden
2. Â Decorate what you see– make sure the entrance and all “first impression” areas in the garden look great.
3. Â Make a list–This is where your dreaming comes in. Catalogs, seed catalog websites, etc. My Sunflower Patch, for example, I wanted variety, so I chose 5 different types of sunflowers.
What are you dreaming about for spring 2012?
see you
