Or so the saying goes.
I am hoping that the cold and rain subside soon to welcome sunshine and cool spring breezes. March is my  birthday month and I delivered Marianna on March 18, so it is a special month for both of us. The ground is almost ready for planting, so many exciting adventures ahead- Can you tell I am happy about March?
Let’s focus on a few accomplishments this growing season. Food and flowers. I have defined 3 spots in the home garden that will be “working areas” for the Gumbo Garden, the annual cut flower area, and a test area for new plants. I do a test run on all my home garden plants–they stay if they can make it through Augusta heat and humidity and my schedule. Â There are a few things to FOCUS on in March…
Planting season is very close, so if you have not ordered seeds, do so. Johnny’s Selected Seeds is a great place to start.
Look out for tomato plants in the next couple of weeks. Go against what I said last year about waiting to plant–DO IT NOW! I want us to be the first with a ripe tomato come June.
Here in Georgia you can plant the following from seed:
- turnips
- spinach (my new broom!!)
- radish
- green onion sets
- arugula–I have a recently acquired taste!
- carrots
- English peas
ROAR!
