 Love ’em.
I was hell bent on leaving our home of nearly 18 years.
We have about 4100 square feet and a fairly large 500 square foot screened in porch. After looking around for an empty lot to build on or another newer “more functional” home, and finally turning down a generous offer on our house, we decided to stay and renovate. The thought of packing up with no lot and not even a potential house was a little scary so I decided we should stay. The renovations will involve our main living areas which are really the reasons I was ready for a move–functional space.
We are staying!
We will tear down the wall to the left(not pictured) which separates the current kitchen and the “big den” to make a large kitching/dining area with two separate rooms on either side–the big den and our TV room.
The wall separating the big den from the current dining room will also open up to increase circulation downstairs.
This will create what I was looking for in a new home.
There is more to the renovation–I’ll be posting more about the whole thing in coming days/weeks as we progress.
PLUS, a couple of guest posts from young college students figuring out apartment living and learning to cook!
They are trying new recipes and sharing.
Exciting times!

Would love it you’ll share who is doing your renovation and how your experience with them goes! We need to do a kitchen renovation at some point, but I keep putting it off–dreading the mess!

Hi Roxann!
Yes. We asked Ellen Pruitt of Studio 3 Design Group to help us design- actually put every detail down on paper-the architectural drawings-We are nearing the stage of having full construction drawings so that Tom Almeter can come in and do his work! Tom is a good family friend and he built our cabin in Burke County, our workshop here outside of this house and whatever construction or carpentry work needs we have- we call him. His crew is very trustworthy. This is not our first kitchen re-do, but our first at knocking out some walls between rooms. I want a more open feel but still rooms with privacy!! We are going to open up the window to our porch and put in doors so that our new eating space flows better to the porch. We are excited to get started. And I am planning to do my best to post things here about the renovation. Thanks. ML
