It has been one week since we started our kitchen renovation–the tear out or demolition of the existing kitchen and the walls between the big den and dining room. Â Thank heavens Robert was out of town for the two days of this process! Robert balances out my “creative side” with his need for order, limited chaos and well, a tidy house. I am not a slob, but I tolerate temporary messes much easier than he does. I started thinking this was going to be a LLLOOONNNGGG process.
Here is our “old” kitchen.
We were able to find a home for just about everything in the old kitchen–cabinets, table, chairs, oven/micro combo, etc.
I am eyeballing some salvaged granite thinking it would make a great counter top for a mini outside kitchen.
And here is where we are now!
The wall seperating the kitchen and the big den has been removed and
the real mess was when the guys took the ceiling out from both rooms. Fiberglass and sheetrock are just awful to inhale. We turned off the air conditioner during this process and all doorways were sealed with a heavy plastic.
This is the wall and doorway that were removed.
Survival?
It’s more like camping at home. I am using the heck out of the gas grill which has a side gas burner just like on a gas stove.
The old black iron skillet is coming in handy, too, for cooking veggies, fried eggs, Â and sausage. Â Our meals are simple like these turkey, feta and spinach burgers, Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes.
The guys like a hot breakfast most days, so it is pretty easy to cook eggs–fried, boiled or scrambled either on the side gas burner or on my favorite electric non-stick griddle! Â I’ve blown the fuse box a couple of times trying to have the radio, Keurig coffee maker and lamp all on the same plug strip! Working on a new spot for the griddle and fast before it gets too rainy outside!
This was my breakfast. Toast, spinach/arugula mix and lean turkey sausage. All cooked on the electric griddle. LOVE IT>
So far, it is like camping rather than survival. We are spending lots more time on the
screened porch and enjoying the cooler weather.
Today I had a flashback to the Pax ice storm days—cold and rainy here.
Hot Bath.
See you
