Mimi Update

Mother's Day 2011

I am doing my best to post almost daily an update on my mother, Mimi, and the state of the Hagler household and its inhabitants! We have fallen into a routine with mama being here. I find myself reviewing the calendar every night and again every morning so I don’t forget what is on the schedule. Busy kids, busy mother and busy me! Mama is doing much better with her physical therapy appointments, and one trip to the beauty shop this week. She is catching up on her sleep, and definitely eating well. We’ve had a bit of a complication as I noticed edema from her left foot almost to the knee.  Yesterday the swelling was accompanied by weeping in two areas of the left foot. This can be potentially dangerous. We saw her doc yesterday, and he ordered a doppler scan of the affected leg in addition to a diuretic and an antibiotic. We were just about to leave for the doppler appointment at the hospital when she told me her stomach was queasy.  Most likely the one antibiotic has aggravated her already delicate stomach after just one dose! Sooo, we have those legs propped in the sky, a few cheese nips to quiet the tummy and her favorite soap opera. OH. Comcast showed up this morning to connect her cable. Meanwhile, I will call and reschedule the doppler on Monday as advised by the Vascular department.

This is a new process for all of us. I am finding that exercise every day will keep my anxiety down, which makes me a better (and more patient) caregiver, wife and mother. I have 2 magazine articles due so I sneak in writing time when I am able to focus. You really can’t let all the details stifle your productivity.

My brother and his boys are here visiting, and mama is really enjoying that. Clark is able to see from a more objective view point since he has not seen mama in a few months. We continue to press on and enjoy this special time with our Mimi.
