Our weekend assignment was to take the “pulse” of our gardens. No matter how big or small our gardens, they require our watchful eyes. Just like taking your pulse says so much about your general health, same goes for keeping an eye on the garden. Well, I am glad I did.  We had a break in the rain moments ago, so I headed out with the camera. The Back 40 looks so healthy after all the rain.
The squash is not looking quite right though. I pulled up the leaves to look at the stem and UGH. Orange poop and what looks like some type of army worm.
Can someone identify this for me? I sprayed with Insecticidal soap which made them angry, but there are lots of them at the base of two of the squash plants.
Need your help with identification and treatment!
How is your pulse?
see you

I’m skipping growing squash this year. For the past several I’ve fought the insects which continue to increase in numbers. Interested in learning what you find out this one is.

Ann.
He looks like an army worm. Seen them in droves on the tennis courts in years past. I was hoping to have the bounty of squash I am supposed to have! I sent post to Extension office for ID.

I’m thinking they are migrating this way. It sure looks like an army worm.
