Another voice in the family this morning when waving and wishing Marianna and Sam a good first day of school! MIMI!! It is delightful having mama here while they are still at home. Despite the occasional eyeball rolling by impatient teenagers, and intermittent scoffing by me because of the repetition of questions, I know that this is good for our little unit. I won’t have to look back and say, “I should have let her live with us.” I think Robert would even say it’s not been so bad. He has a country retreat he can run to when he needs to.
So, here is an update. I write while mama is taking a nice long shower in the next room. Yes, unassisted. That is how she does most activities these days. There are still a few things she needs help with, but mostly she is independent. Her memory, however, is still hit or miss. Those neurons continue firing at random. You would not realize that her memory is amiss until you spent about an hour with her. Then you would know that you’ve answered that same question at least twice.
I knew she was better when she started unloading my dishwasher!!! Waaa–hoo! That is a job I don’t like, and Marianna is always gone when I want it emptied(her usual job). We have visited mama’s house a couple of times, but she keeps saying it is depressing. Not sure why. Because she was sick there? No company?
Mama has been dismissed from Physical Therapy. Really nice duo from University Home Health. We had the Rollator walker , and the Combo Bedside Commode/Shower/Over-Toilet  Chair brought in and used them for about a week. Mama is completely independent of both now. She starts her own shower, and walks with the cane- occasionally.  I quiz her every morning about her medicine. I line the 4 tablets up on a napkin, then ask her what each one is and the reason for taking each. She has one of them down, but still requires hints for the remaining. This is our nurse game!
We’ve been talking about visiting the church Senior Center for a movie. She is not ready for stand up aerobics, a seated workout would do for now. She has had visits from old friends. Connie, a long-time co-worker and friend, came by with giant sandwiches for the three of us. We had a wonderful visit, and enjoyed reminiscing.
Well, that is it for now. Thank you for your prayers and cards and inspiration.

My mom’smemory is also hit or miss! She uses her cane most days now to get around and is a bit slow. Having erin live with her has kept her in her own home for now. If we got them together they would forget what they e
