Shake It Up In Pink
In case you are wondering why all these posts on Facebook, Instagram and now here about The Gut Makeover, I was feeling a need to reset my diet after vacations, date nights, and just boring routine. The 50’s are known for hormonal changes, so I began reading more about menopause and how food, rest, sleep and exercise are key at this time in life. Ladies, we can’t keep doing the same things we did 10 years ago. Shake it up! I am fascinated with the impact nutrition has on us now and hope to share more with you as I learn.
I found Jeannette Hyde’s book on Amazon and thoroughly enjoyed reading it and have adapted many of the recipe suggestions from the book to our daily menu.
I was so excited to open The Gut Makeover recipe book when it arrived today,
I blew right to the store for frozen cherries and kefir.
This is week 2 for me aka the Reinoculation phase where you can have blue cheese and kefir.
have never tried kefir so I was eager to experience the taste.
I drank the concoction so quickly that flowers are standing in for the shake photo.
Pink Kefir Shake
(for one)
8 oz. organic plain kefir
handful frozen black cherries
about an inch worth of tumeric root (or less/none if you are not used to it!)
(I found tumeric root in the produce section at Publix)
Sprinkle of ground flaxseeds
Blend until smooth and drink right away.
Chase with a tall glass of water to help digest the flaxseeds.
Kefir has loads of good bacteria just waiting to bloom in your gut. It does not have sugar and tastes like fizzy milk. Kefir is very tart to my tastebuds, but giving it a whirl in blender with the frozen cherries or frozen peaches makes it very refreshing. I drink a blended shake before my more intense workouts then have a boiled egg or two after the training.Â
I bought this Oster blender at KROGER and have used the heck out of it.
Just saw this VitaMix at COSTCO today and wondering if I should get it.
I would appreciate your thoughts on it–whether or not you like it.
See you soon.
