OK. So I am married to a guy who has 3 tractors, smokes cigars on the weekends, and will eat  rabbit eyeballs on a dare($100 per eyeball minimum). And, yes, wear a girlie tee shirt at the same time! I recently shared the photo below on Facebook because of its beauty.
(This photo is all over the Internet with no credit for the source. Asking forgiveness, but readers please know that this is not my photo!)
Some of my favorite edible flowers are nasturtiums which grow well in dappled shade surviving Augusta’s mighty heat and humidity.
Before you go ripping the heads off all your lovelies, it is important to note the rules to eating edible flowers. This article from TreeHugger.com gives us a list of 42 flowers you can eat.Â
Be sure to read the “rules” outlined at the beginning of the article which caution us about eating flowers. The best rule of thumb is to eat from your own garden. You know there will be no pesticides or herbicides on your little pretties.
Meanwhile, it’s not too late to plant many of the herbs on this list including my sweet nasturtiums. (These are my photos!). Even Big Daddy above doesn’t mind a little flower in his salad!
They grow best right from seed rather than worrying about purchasing transplants. Soak the capers-like seeds in warm water for a few hours to soften the seeds, then plant them in a dappled shade bed and watch those round leaves begin to grow.
Nasturtiums are lovely in little bud vases and tasty in a tossed salad.
Real men do eat flowers.
Enjoy.
