This weekend Neisha and I hosted FlowerCamp at The Hagler Farm in Burke County. We had about 45 visitors in a 3 day time span. We clipped wild flowers, zinnias and greenery to create unique fall arrangements. I compared the creative exercise to one of my favorite shows–CHOPPED. The FlowerCampers were given select living material, a trendy container and the arranging assignment. Campers travelled home with their centerpieces to enjoy for days.
The fall months are filled with centerpiece opportunities. That is why we chose the theme “Open your eyes” for the FlowerCamp this year. We are surrounded by natural beauty.
Let’s show off what you are doing. My friend, Sterling, is a wonderful flower designer, especially during football season! Her tailgate arrangement was so fun and I am sure fans were envious of her tailgating talent!  I am not talking about complicated reception-type centerpieces, but something small for your table to create ambiance, add some zing and possibly a conversation to your family table or  Friday night tailgate.
Yes, we are all busy, but we all go to the store, we all have something green in the yard, so you can do it. No whining. Dig up a vase or whatever container you have and let’s put a simple arrangement together this week. Take a picture and put it on Facebook or send it to me at mlchgarden@comcast.net…

PS. this is not Sterling’s lovely zinnia tailgate arrangement. I took this picture in Asheville while sitting in a lovely microbrewery/restaurant. Fresh flowers grown by one of the waitresses! We bonded right away!!
