Spring is here! Actually, in Augusta it has been in the 90’s for the past few days- summer? The Knockout roses have given us splashes of color from the kitchen window, and the coral honeysuckle is bowing to the hot pink country roses covering the rebar arbor.
Sam informed me that I needed to put more color in the garden–it was too green!
He’s right, I know once the spring flush fades I will need summer color.
What’s the plan?
I have to keep the home garden simple since I am short on time.
Plants in my gardens must give me some sort of return on investment–flowers or food.
Zinnias. What do you think?
Color?
Zinnias are easy to plant from seed and with a little tending to get them started provide a summer’s worth of color and snazzy table arrangements!
My favorite variety of zinnia is the Benary Giant. They are huge dahlia like flowers on a substantial stem–perfect for arrangements such as those above.
