Oh my goodness. I’ve been scolded or just informed, really, of my monthly grocery expenditures. After polling my friends, including the ladies at the check out counter at Publix, it’s not all that bad. I can do better. My running buddy, Julie, is a Master Shopper. If there were a degree in Thrifty, she’d have the Ph.D. Julie is telling me to hit WalMart on Sundays and Costco or Sam’s Club once a month. Well, it sounds so easy, but I am claustrophobic and I FREAK OUT in stores where there are aisles to the ceiling of stuff. It makes me nutty.
So, I’ve decided to spend a bit more time on my Sunday menu planning sessions. I’ll google “easy, cheap and healthy” …Is there such a thing? I grew up on butterbeans and rice which back then was a complete protein- now considered double carbs!! I dropped big bucks on a fresh turkey breast with a pop up timer last week. Now, I know 20 bucks sounds like a lot for a turkey boob, but we’ve had 3 very delicious meals from that boob.
1. Â Sliced turkey breast with veggies and mashed potatoes.
2. Â Turkey “hash”–chopped turkey, potato cubes, celery and onions over rice. My people LOVE this.
3. Â Turkey and veggie soup.
So I am feeling pretty good about stretching pricier items such as the turkey breast…and you can’t beat the pop up timer!
I’d like to hear your meal stretching menu ideas. I am NOT going to sit for hours clipping coupons and all that. Nope.
Please share here what you do even if it’s one little tip, so we can incorporate them all and save lots of bucks!!
see you

Can’t wait to hear the responses. In PA, I had a friend that had 12, yes 12 children. She basically cooked from scratch. She did her meal planning, &
shopping list with the Sunday paper. Whatever was on sale, that is how she planned her meals.

TWELVE is a lot of mouths to feed.!! I used to sit with the paper, but now I sit with cooks.com or a great new website or blog. I usually Google something like easy menus for dinner. Now the challenge is easy, cheap and HEALTHY. There are lots of blogs out there proving that you can do all three!
Thanks for the comment, Biffy!
